What is a SyncUP and the Weekly Guide?

To put is simply, a “SyncUP” is spending quality time with God for the purpose of knowing Him better in order to align your life (mind, will, and emotions) to His design.  The sync goes only in one direction…UP!
The Weekly SyncUP Guide publishes every Monday and is provided as a FREE resource to SyncUP email subscribers only. Click here to Invite a Friend to Join SyncUP.

This guide provides five (5) daily outlines on scripture reading, reflection questions, life application steps, and prayers to help you have your own daily SyncUPs with God for the rest of the week.

This is not a prescription but a rather a resource to help facilitate rich, fulfilling, genuine, and life changing time with God.

DON’T FREAK OUT…if doing all 5 this week is overwhelming, set a goal of 2 or 3 and work your way up from there.
God Bless!

Day 1

Day 1 – Love: The Person

Reading

Read 1 John 4:7-8

Reflection

People have a lot of opinions on the definition of love. What have been some of the opinions about love you have believed throughout your life?

According to 1 John 4:7-8, what is love and where does it come from?

Since God is love, then love must have God’s characteristics. What about God’s character makes it impossible for love to be only about ‘feelings’? Find one scripture to support your answer.

The Word in Action

Today, pick a popular love song (past or present) and listen to it verse by verse. Journal which verses align with the truth that God is love and which ones do not.

Prayer

Gracious God and Father, teach my heart the truth about love. Teach me about You. There are so many opinions floating in my head about love from songs, movies, and people. Train me to discern the truth from the lies by using Your Word as my anchor. Transform my mind so that I no longer reduce love to just a series of feelings but rather the classification of who You are.

In Jesus Name, Amen.

Day 2

Day 2 – Love In Action

Reading

Read John 3:16, Romans 5:8 and John 14:15-16

Reflection

How did God put his love into action according to John 3:16?

According to Romans 5:8, who did God put His love into action for and why is this so significant?

How does John 14:15 tell us to put our love into action toward God? Why is this immediately followed with the promise of Holy Spirit in verse 16?

The Word in Action

Today, memorize Romans 5:8 but make it personal by replacing “us” and “we” with “me” and “I”.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, Your love is not just about sweet words, it’s about action. Thank you for loving me out of my own destruction and into Your eternal kingdom. I want my love for You to be about action too. Give me a sensitive ear to listen to the Helper, the Holy Spirit, who You sent to teach my heart to love you through obedience.

In Jesus Name, Amen.

Day 3

Day 3 – Toxic Love

Reading

Read 1 Corinthians 13:4-7

Reflection

Sometimes in order to understand what’s healthy, you have to start with what’s toxic.

Look at 1 Corinthians 13:4-7.

For every “Love is not” statement write your own corresponding “Love is” statement.

Love is not envious or boastful………. therefore Love is __________ and __________

Love is not arrogant or rude….………. therefore Love is __________ and __________

Love is not insistent of its own way… therefore Love is __________

Love is not irritable or resentful…….. therefore Love is __________ and __________

Love doesn’t rejoice in wrongdoing… therefore Love is __________

Which one of the “Love is not” statements have you struggled with the most and why?

The Word in Action

Today, take some time to reflect on the way you love the person closest to you. Confess and ask them for forgiveness for any of the “Love is not” behaviors you have committed against them.

Prayer

Dear God, thank you for revealing what love is not so I can better understand what love is. Forgive me for when I make love about me; my objectives and agenda. I see that’s what makes it toxic. I submit my toxic relationships to You and plead for your deliverance.

In Jesus Name, Amen

Day 4

Day 4 – Healthy Love

Reading

Read Matthew 22:36-40 and Ephesians 3:19

Reflection

According to Matthew 22:36-40, is there anything we should hold back when loving God?

What is the result of knowing the love of Christ according to Ephesians 3:19?

These two scriptures describe the love we have with God as taking all we have but giving us all fullness. How can this be and what does this tell us about healthy love?

The Word in Action

Today, observe and write down all the ways God demonstrates love to you personally.

Prayer

Father in heaven, thank you for loving me. Loving You takes all of me; heart, soul, and mind. But Your love brings health to my heart and mind and fills every empty part of my soul. Teach me to desire this type of healthy love in all my relationships. Protect me from the temptation of toxic love and the lie that tells me it’s better than not having a special person in my life.

In Jesus Name, Amen

Day 5

Day 5 – Transformative Love

Reading

Read 1 John 3:2, John 14:8-10, 1 John 4:16-18 and 1 John 4:10-12

Reflection

Describe the transformation those loved by God (His Beloved) experience in 1 John 3:2. How does this verse connect with John 14:8-10?

What specific fear does the perfect (complete) love of God cast out of believers according to 1 John 4:16-18? How has this fear played out in your relationship with God and others?

There are two transformative impacts God’s love has on our interactions with others that are described in 1 John 4:10-12. What are they? (Hint: The first is obvious. The second is implied in verse 12)

The Word in Action

Today, write down fears you have encountered in your relationship with God on a piece of paper. Spend time in prayer asking God for deliverance. Then “cast” your fear in the trashcan.

Prayer

Dear Lord, Your love has changed my life. I have gone from being a lost creation to being a found child of God. Grant me confidence in this transformation. Remove from my heart all the fears that get in the way of me embracing the fullness of your perfect love. Give me boldness to demonstrate this love to others so they can get a peek of You through the way I love. I pray lives are transformed as I love the way You love me.

In Jesus Name, Amen
