SyncUP Guide: Volume 1, Issue 12

July 11th – July 15th

Get Started

What is a SyncUP and the Weekly Guide?

To put is simply, a “SyncUP” is spending quality time with God for the purpose of knowing Him better in order to align your life (mind, will, and emotions) to His design.  The sync goes only in one direction…UP!
The Weekly SyncUP Guide publishes every Monday and is provided as a FREE resource to SyncUP email subscribers only. Click here to Invite a Friend to Join SyncUP.

This guide provides five (5) daily outlines on scripture reading, reflection questions, life application steps, and prayers to help you have your own daily SyncUPs with God for the rest of the week.

This is not a prescription but a rather a resource to help facilitate rich, fulfilling, genuine, and life changing time with God.

DON’T FREAK OUT…if doing all 5 this week is overwhelming, set a goal of 2 or 3 and work your way up from there.
God Bless!

Day 1

Day 1 – The Holy Spirit is God

Reading

Read Acts 5:3-4, 2 Corinthians 3:17-18, and Matthew 28:19

Reflection

In Acts 5:3, who does the scripture say Ananias lied to? What about at the end of v.4? What does this tell us about the Holy Spirit and God?

Who is the Lord according to 2 Corinthians 3:17-18? How does this statement impact you?

The Great Commission in Matthew 28:19 includes the phrase “in the name”. What is the most accurate definition for the way “name” is translated in this scripture? (Ref: Blue Letter Bible)

A. The word by which someone is called

B. A designation such as chief, commander, superior

C. Authority

By whose authority are people baptized into the Christian faith? What does this prove about the Holy Spirit’s status?

The Word in Action

Today, journal what it means that the Holy Spirit is God. Include what makes this difficult to process?

Prayer

Gracious God, help me understand ALL of who you are. It is very difficult for my mind to perceive how three persons can be one. Keep me from giving up the pursuit of understanding You and let my heart perceive what my mind cannot. Holy Spirit, forgive me for not always acknowledging Your deity.

In Jesus Name, Amen.

Day 2

Day 2 – Creator

Reading

Read Psalm 104:1-30 and Genesis 1:1-2

Reflection

God’s diverse creation is described in Psalm 104:1-26. Which examples of his creative work stick out the most to you?

In Psalm 104:30, what do we learn about God’s creative process?

How does Psalm 104:30 connect with Genesis 1:2?

The Word in Action

Today, carefully observe the creative work of the Holy Spirit everywhere you go. Give praise as you observe.

Prayer

Heavenly Creator, how amazing are your works! There is nothing in creation that does not have your mark; nothing that exists that didn’t come to be by, through and for You. Holy Spirit, thank You for the new life and renewal that comes with your presence. Do not let my limited understanding of Your creative process limit my ability to praise You for the results.

In Jesus Name, Amen.

Day 3

Day 3 – Divine Communicator

Reading

Read Acts 13:2, 1 Timothy 4:1, John 16:13 and 2 Peter 1:21

Reflection

Looking at Acts 13:2 and I Timothy 4:1 as examples, how would you categorize the types of things the Holy Spirit communicates?

What is the origin of the Holy Spirit’s communications according to John 16:13?

What does 2 Peter 1:21 tell us about the origin of the prophecies, sermons, and accounts recorded in the Bible?

The Word in Action

Today, list the ways the Holy Spirit communicates to you and your response each time. Are you ignoring, passively hearing, or actively listening? Confess to God and to a trustworthy, godly friend.

Prayer

Dear God, I am so thankful we are on speaking terms! Holy Spirit, help me not to take Your communications for granted. Keep me from ignoring the things You tell me that I don’t want to hear. Stop me from passively hearing Your words in way that they go in one ear and out the other. Give me a focused mind and undivided attention to actively listen to You and put Your words into action.

In Jesus Name, Amen

Day 4

Day 4 – Power Source

Reading

Read Judges 3:10, Judges 14:6 and Luke 1:35

Reflection

There are many examples of the Holy Spirit “coming upon” God’s people and empowering them to do amazing things. What are some examples from the scriptures above?

Judges 3:10    ______________________________________________

Judges 14:6    ______________________________________________

Luke 1:35        ______________________________________________

What is the difference between the Holy Spirit “coming upon” people and the indwelling of the Holy Spirit?

The Word in Action

Today, find one other example from the Bible of the Holy Spirit “coming upon” a person and empowering them to do something amazing.

Prayer

My Lord and my God, all power is in You! When I read and witness what the Holy Spirit can empower a person to do, I am both stunned and fearful. Help me get past my fear and embrace being endowed with power to do unimaginable things to fulfill God’s will. I am humbled to be a conduit of such a Power.

In Jesus Name, Amen

Day 5

Day 5 – The Sent One

Reading

Read John 16:5-7, John 14:26, and John 14:16

Reflection

John 16:5-7 records part of Jesus’ “farewell” to His disciples before He is crucified, resurrected and ascends back to glory. What does He say to comfort them?

Who is the Helper Jesus sends according to John 14:26?

Jesus was sent to earth for approximately 33 years. According to John 14:16, how long will the Helper be sent to the people of God? What are the implications of this? (This will be addressed further in next week’s SyncUP Guide)

The Word in Action

Today, prayerfully meditate on the idea of God sending Himself out on assignment. Write down whatever comes to mind.

Prayer

Dear Lord, it is so good to know I am never alone and without You. In agreement with Yourself, You saw fit to send Yourself, in order to unite Your people to Yourself. And You did it twice! I am overwhelmed by the depth and breadth of You. Thank you for loving me and wanting to be always with me.

In Jesus Name, Amen

  1. Whew! this one was right on time! Thank you!

When I am angry it is tough to hear from the Holy Spirit because I am so busy being angry that I don’t want to hear from the Holy Spirit at that time and I repent right now! I don’t want to just hear from the Holy Spirit when I want to hear I am not in control and its not my world LOL! Seriously though this spoke to my heart!

    1. I am so happy to hear this was timely for you. I can completely relate. When I am angry or disappointed, those are the hardest times for me to hear from the Holy Spirit. But then again, those are the times I need to hear from Him the most.
