What is a SyncUP and the Weekly Guide?

To put is simply, a “SyncUP” is spending quality time with God for the purpose of knowing Him better in order to align your life (mind, will, and emotions) to His design.  The sync goes only in one direction…UP!
The Weekly SyncUP Guide publishes every Monday and is provided as a FREE resource to SyncUP email subscribers only. Click here to Invite a Friend to Join SyncUP.

This guide provides five (5) daily outlines on scripture reading, reflection questions, life application steps, and prayers to help you have your own daily SyncUPs with God for the rest of the week.

This is not a prescription but a rather a resource to help facilitate rich, fulfilling, genuine, and life changing time with God.

DON’T FREAK OUT…if doing all 5 this week is overwhelming, set a goal of 2 or 3 and work your way up from there.
God Bless!

Day 1

Day 1 – Resident Spirit

Reading

Read Numbers 11:24-25, 1 Corinthians 3:16 and John 14:16

Reflection

What was the relationship between The Spirit and Old Testament believers like? (Ref. Numbers 11:24-25)

Looking at I Corinthians 3:16, how is the relationship between the Spirit and New Testament believers different?

Why were the seventy elders not able to continue prophesying in Numbers 11:25 and why do believers of today not have this same limitation? (Ref. John 14:16)

The Word in Action

Today, think of an analogy that explains the difference between the Spirit “coming upon” people (Old Testament) and the Spirit “indwelling” people (New Testament). Ask the Spirit to guide you to share your analogy with at least 2 people today.

Prayer

Gracious God, thank you for choosing me to be Your vessel. I can’t fully comprehend why You would choose to make a home in me, but I am humbled and full of gratitude. Teach my mind and heart to embrace the fact that the Spirit and I will be together from now to forever. Let me live everyday conscious that there is an internal Resident witnessing my every thought, attitude, emotion, and action.

In Jesus Name, Amen.

Day 2

Day 2 – Helper

Reading

Read John 14:26 and John 15:26

Reflection

The Helper will teach believers “all things” according to John 14:26. What does this mean practically and why is it helpful? Does this happen instantly when we receive the Spirit? (Hint: Use a concordance to research the tense for the word teach in v.26)

Why is remembrance such a helpful gift from the Spirit?

In John 15:26, who does the Spirit bear witness about? How does this help believers?

The Word in Action

Today, list all the ways the Spirit helps you personally. Spend some time giving praise for these blessings.

Prayer

Dear God, I am so grateful that You provide Help. This faith journey can be long and difficult. You knew I couldn’t make it on my own. Holy Spirit, teach me to receive Your Help with eagerness. Remove from me any pride or rebellion in my heart that would cause me to refuse Your help. Let me remember You are with me, helping me in all aspects of my life. Let this give me confidence when I face the days ahead. No matter how difficult they may be, I know there are no circumstances the Spirit can’t guide me through.

In Jesus Name, Amen

Day 3

Day 3 – Overcoming Sin

Reading

Read Galatians 5:16-17, Galatians 5:22-23

Reflection

According to Galatians 5:16-17, what conflict is going on inside each and every believer?

Which opponent in the conflict will overpower the other and win? Find a scripture that supports your answer?

Why does this conflict not exist for non-believers?

The Word in Action

Today, review Galatians 5:22-23. List a sin in your life (past or present) that can be overcome by each of the parts of the fruit of the Spirit.

Prayer

My Lord and my God, You see, firsthand, the sin that dwells in my heart. I am grateful that the Spirit is contending on my behalf and overpowering my sinful desires. And not only do you overpower it but You replace it with Your fruit…love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. I praise God that, by the Spirit, I am no longer a slave to desires of sin. I have been set free by the Overcomer! Help me to live and walk in this freedom each day.

In Jesus Name, Amen

Day 4

Day 4 – Empowering Saints

Reading

Read John 6:63 and Philippians 2:13

Reflection

What does the Spirit empower believer’s with according to John 6:63?

Why does the flesh not help for giving life? Find a scripture to support your answer.

Philippians 2:13 tells us the Spirit works in believers to empower them to “will and work”. For what result? Why is it significant that the Spirit empowers us to both “will and work” for what’s good?

Whose good do you “will and work” for the most in your life. What does this reveal about your relationship with the Spirit?

The Word in Action

Today, prayerfully meditate on the difference between self-empowerment and Holy Spirit empowerment. Journal your thoughts.

Prayer

Dear Lord, thank you for true empowerment. I am bombarded all day with philosophies and teachings about how to empower myself. Help me to see that these are empty because they are about achieving what is “good” in man’s eyes. Holy Spirit, give me a will/desire for what is good and pleasing to God. Use my life to do good works that give God pleasure. There is no greater ambition than this!

In Jesus Name, Amen

Day 5

Day 5 – The First Indwelling

Reading

Acts 2:1-40

Reflection

What happened to the disciples of Christ on the day of Pentecost? Had this ever happened before?

What prophecy was fulfilled by this event? Where is this prophecy located in scripture?

Verse 5 states that upon being filled with the Spirit, the Spirit gave them “utterance”, in other words, something to say. What was it?

What can we conclude from the fact that the first human indwelling of the Spirit resulted in a sermon about Jesus?

The Word in Action

Today, review Acts 2 again. Think about the last time the Spirit gave you “utterance” to speak to someone about Jesus. Did you submit to the Holy Spirit’s leading immediately or did you resist? What could have happened if Peter resisted in Acts 2? Journal your thoughts.

Prayer

My Redeemer, You have given me an amazing story to tell. In fact, You have given me two. By the Spirit, I can tell people about the Gospel of Jesus Christ; His life, His death, His resurrection and how He saved the world. By the Spirit, I can tell people about how this Gospel changed my life, a testimony as a living witness to God’s saving grace. Holy Spirit, overpower anything or anyone that tries to stifle the “utterance” You give me.

In Jesus Name, Amen.
