SyncUP Guide: Volume 1, Issue 14

July 25th – July 29th

Get Started

What is a SyncUP and the Weekly Guide?

To put is simply, a “SyncUP” is spending quality time with God for the purpose of knowing Him better in order to align your life (mind, will, and emotions) to His design.  The sync goes only in one direction…UP!
The Weekly SyncUP Guide publishes every Monday and is provided as a FREE resource to SyncUP email subscribers only. Click here to Invite a Friend to Join SyncUP.

This guide provides five (5) daily outlines on scripture reading, reflection questions, life application steps, and prayers to help you have your own daily SyncUPs with God for the rest of the week.

This is not a prescription but a rather a resource to help facilitate rich, fulfilling, genuine, and life changing time with God.

DON’T FREAK OUT…if doing all 5 this week is overwhelming, set a goal of 2 or 3 and work your way up from there.
God Bless!

Day 1

Day 1 – The Spirit’s Mission

Reading

Read John 16:7-11

Reflection

What is the mission of the Holy Spirit? (Hint: v.8)

What is the difference between “convict” and “condemn”?

A synonym for convict is convince. What does the Spirit convince people is the root of all sin (v.9)? What does the Spirit convince people is the source of all righteousness (v.10)? What does the Spirit convince people is the final judgment (result) of the war between God and the enemy (v.11)?

The Word in Action

Today, think about the most recent conviction the Spirit has given you about sin, righteousness, or judgment. What scripture supports this conviction? Share with 1 person.

Prayer

Gracious God, thank you for the mission of the Holy Spirit. I am grateful that you have sent the Spirit to convict my heart that all sin begins with disbelief in Jesus, is relieved with belief in truth of Jesus, and ends with judgement against the enemy of Jesus. Praise the Spirit for delivering the message of eternal freedom from sin and the devil!

In Jesus Name, Amen.

Day 2

Day 2 – The Spirit in Action

Reading

Read Revelation 2 & 3

Reflection

In the prophetic book of Revelation, seven convicting letters are written to churches in chapter 2 and 3. Who is the sending these convicting letters?

For the first three churches, list what the Spirit is convicting (convincing) them about under the category of sin, righteousness, and/or judgement

Sin Righteousness Judgment
Ephesus
Smyrna
Pergamum
Thyatira
Sardis
Philadelphia
Laodicea

The Word in Action

Today, complete the table above for the remaining four churches.

Prayer

Holy Spirit, Your rebukes hurt but they can be trusted. Thank You for redirecting me back to Christ when I lose sight of Him. Help me to receive Your conviction for the saving grace that it is. Forgive me of pride and self-righteousness that diminishes the value of Christ in my heart and leads me to resist Your correction.

In Jesus Name, Amen

Day 3

Day 3 – The World’s Reaction to The Spirit

Reading

Read John 14:15-17 and Romans 8:5-8

Reflection

What is the world’s reaction to the Holy Spirit? Why is this the case?

How does Romans 8:5-8 describe the mindset of those who live by the flesh? Describe a time when your mind was hostile to God.

Unbelievers (those that live by the flesh) can accomplish many things, even things the world considers “good”. What’s the one thing they can’t do? (Hint v.8)

The Word in Action

Today, read Hebrews 11:1-6. Journal all the ways verses 1 & 6 connect to John 14:17 and Romans 8:8

Prayer

My Lord and my God, strengthen me with faith. Train my heart to be assured of the things hoped for in Christ and the conviction of the unseen Spirit. Purge me of anything in my heart that demonstrates hostility toward God. Give me passion to pursue not the good things that please the world but the godly things that please You.

In Jesus Name, Amen

Day 4

Day 4 – The Believer’s Response to The Spirit

Reading

Read Ephesians 5:15-21

Reflection

In verse 18, the word “drunk” means filled. What are we to be “drunk” with?

Provide a scripture that explains how being filled with Spirit enables believers to:

Walk wisely:    Scripture ____________

Understand the will of the Lord:    Scripture ____________

Address one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord:    Scripture ____________

Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ:    Scripture ____________

The Word in Action

Today, think of 3 effects of being drunk with alcohol. Journal how the effects of being drunk with The Spirit are similar and how they are different.

Prayer

Dear Lord, thank you for filling me with the Spirit! I am inundated with messages that tell me that filling my life with pleasure, money, stuff, achievement, etc. will give me fulfillment. Help me to see these for what they really are; empty promises. I open myself to embrace a life filled and fulfilled with only the Spirit of God.

In Jesus Name, Amen

Day 5

Day 5 – Mission Success

Reading

Read Titus 3:1-7

Reflection

Verses 1-3 illustrate a before and after picture of a group of people. Who are these people?

What strikes you as the biggest difference between who they were and who they became?

Who is responsible for this transformation and how?

The Word in Action

Today, try to memorize Titus 3:4-7

Prayer

My Redeemer, You make all things new. It doesn’t matter how much education I attain, how many promotions I receive, or how many goals I reach. There’s no true life transformation apart from You. Holy Spirit, please wash me with regeneration and renewal every day of my life. Fix my mind and ambitions on the inheritance of eternal life I have in Christ.

In Jesus Name, Amen.
