SyncUP Guide: Volume 1, Issue 15

August 1st – August 5th

Get Started

What is a SyncUP and the Weekly Guide?

To put is simply, a “SyncUP” is spending quality time with God for the purpose of knowing Him better in order to align your life (mind, will, and emotions) to His design.  The sync goes only in one direction…UP!
The Weekly SyncUP Guide publishes every Monday and is provided as a FREE resource to SyncUP email subscribers only. Click here to Invite a Friend to Join SyncUP.

This guide provides five (5) daily outlines on scripture reading, reflection questions, life application steps, and prayers to help you have your own daily SyncUPs with God for the rest of the week.

This is not a prescription but a rather a resource to help facilitate rich, fulfilling, genuine, and life changing time with God.

DON’T FREAK OUT…if doing all 5 this week is overwhelming, set a goal of 2 or 3 and work your way up from there.
God Bless!

Day 1

Day 1 – Unity in The Spirit

Reading

Read Acts 2:1-2 and Matthew 18:20

Reflection

What is the festival of Pentecost? (Ref: Blue Letter Bible)

Why would this have been a challenging time for the followers of Christ? What happened during the last Jewish festival (Passover)? (Ref. John 18:28)

What happens to get their attention prior to the Holy Spirit’s arrival at their gathering place?

Why is it significant that God came while those who followed Christ were all together?

The Word in Action

Today, take some time with two or more believers to “gather in the name of Christ” (prayer, reading the Word, or sharing testimonies about God, etc.)

Prayer

Gracious God, teach me to value the time of gathering with other believers in Your name. Show me how to make it a part of my lifestyle. Give me eyes and ears to perceive Your presence when I am gathered with Your people.

In Jesus Name, Amen.

Day 2

Day 2 – Filled by The Spirit

Reading

Read Acts 2:3-4

Reflection

What and Who descends over and in the believers? Is any of this hard to imagine/understand? If so, what?

What New Testament prophet foretold this event? What’s the scripture? (Hint: It’s somewhere in Matthew 3)

What’s the significance of “fire” and how is it used in scripture? (Ref: Blue Letter Bible)

When the believers were filled with the Holy Spirit, what’s the first thing they were empowered to do? Why is this important for the mission of the Holy Spirit and the Church (all Christ followers)?

The Word in Action

Today, ask the Holy Spirit to speak through you and don’t resist when He does.

Prayer

Holy Spirit, You have a message for the world and You’ve selected me to be Your microphone. I hardly ever feel qualified for the job. Teach me to look more to Your power and less to my abilities when I speak. Please keep your message pure and authentic as it passes through my lips.

In Jesus Name, Amen

Day 3

Day 3 – Speak and Hear by The Spirit

Reading

Read Acts 2:5-13

Reflection

How does verse 5 describe those who heard the believers talking after they had been filled with the Holy Spirit? Were they Christians?

What was so amazing about how the believers were speaking?

What were they speaking about?

All those who were hearing the amazing words responded in one of two ways. What were those ways?

The Word in Action

Today, pray and consider how you listen to the Spirit. Do you seek to understand like the men who asked “What does this mean?” or do you mock the Spirit by trying to dismiss what He’s saying with human logic/explanation? If you owe the Spirit an apology, do it now.

Prayer

My Lord and my God, sometimes I hear without listening. Teach me to seek understanding when the Spirit speaks. Sometimes I try to dismiss and excuse away what the Spirit is saying because it’s beyond my logic. Forgive me, Holy Spirit for trying to put you on human terms.

In Jesus Name, Amen

Day 4

Day 4 – Preach by The Spirit

Reading

Read Acts 2:14-40

Reflection

People were confused by what they were seeing the Holy Spirit do through the believers. This prompted Peter to give a “sermon” (a talk) to them.

Who was the “talk” mainly about?

Write 3 to 5 sentences for his key points?

Whose words did he use most? How did he insert them into the “talk”?

How long was his “talk”?

The Word in Action

Today, ask the Holy Spirit for an opportunity to “talk” to someone. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you keep it short and Christ-centered. Don’t hesitate when the opportunity comes.

Prayer

Dear Lord, You have given me something to talk about. Your life, Your sacrifice, Your victory, Your glory could fill every conversation I have for the rest of my life. Yet, sometimes I feel like I can’t say anything. Deliver me from fear, worry, or anything else that tries to stifle me from talking about You. Give me a bold and humble tongue.

In Jesus Name, Amen

Day 5

Day 5 – Results by The Spirit

Reading

Read Acts 1:13-16, Acts 2:41-47, and Leviticus 23:15-21

Reflection

How many Christ followers were gathered at the start of Pentecost? After the Spirit spoke through Peter about Jesus, how many new Christ-followers were added to their number?

Who was really responsible for this? Why is it important for believers today to remember who’s responsible for the results?

Why is it significant that this happened during Pentecost, also called The Day of Firstfruits in Numbers 28:26? (Hint: Pentecost is explained in Leviticus 23:15-21)

How did the Holy Spirit impact the quality of life of the Christ-followers after the events at Pentecost (v.42-46)? What was the result (v.47)?

The Word in Action

Today, think about how the Spirit preached the message of Christ both through what the believers said and how they lived. Memorize this scripture:

Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers. (1 Timothy 4:16 NIV)

Prayer

Dear Father, my prayer is simple. Let the Holy Spirit speak the Gospel through my words and actions every day of my life.
