SyncUP Guide: Volume 1, Issue 21

September 12th – September 16th

Get Started

What is a SyncUP and the Weekly Guide?

To put is simply, a “SyncUP” is spending quality time with God for the purpose of knowing Him better in order to align your life (mind, will, and emotions) to His design.  The sync goes only in one direction…UP!
The Weekly SyncUP Guide publishes every Monday and is provided as a FREE resource to SyncUP email subscribers only. Click here to Invite a Friend to Join SyncUP.

This guide provides five (5) daily outlines on scripture reading, reflection questions, life application steps, and prayers to help you have your own daily SyncUPs with God for the rest of the week.

This is not a prescription but a rather a resource to help facilitate rich, fulfilling, genuine, and life changing time with God.

DON’T FREAK OUT…if doing all 5 this week is overwhelming, set a goal of 2 or 3 and work your way up from there.
God Bless!

Day 1

Day 1 – More Than a “Teacher”

Reading

Key Verse: John 3:1-2 (ESV)

Cross Reference: John 12:42-43 (ESV)

Reflection

Why do you think Nicodemus, a Pharisee, came to Jesus at night?

Why did Nicodemus refer to Jesus as just “teacher” when he knew he came from God? Have you encountered similar people? Have you been this person?

How have you loved the glory of man over the glory of God? Are you repenting?

The Word in Action

Today, boldly and graciously profess who Jesus is and know He will carry you through the consequences.

Prayer

Gracious Father, give me the courage to be comfortable in displeasing people. There are many people, some in my own family, that believe You’re only a teacher, a good example, a wise man, anything but God. But I know the truth about You. Help me value keeping Your truth over having the approval of others.

In Jesus Name, Amen.

Day 2

Day 2 – Born Again

Reading

Key Verse: John 3:3-4 (ESV)

Cross Reference: 1 Peter 1:23-25 (ESV)

Reflection

Why is the term “born again” confusing to people? What did you think it meant the first time you heard it?

What’s the difference between being “born again” and a natural birth?

What is the connection between the word of God and being “born again”? What is this “word” specifically?

The Word in Action

Today, walk in confidence that you are the offspring of God’s living and abiding word.

Prayer

My Lord, Your word is life-giving. It has given me a new life that human effort could not create. I have an imperishable existence completely powered and sustained by just the power of  Your word. My soul lives because You said so. You are a mighty Savior!

In Jesus Name, Amen.

Day 3

Day 3 – Born of the Spirit

Reading

Key Verse: John 3:5-8

Cross Reference: Ecclesiastes 11:4-5

Reflection

In 1 Peter 1:23-25, we read that those born again are born of the word. Now we read that they are born of the Spirit. How is this not a contradiction?

What is the benefit of being born of the Spirit?

The “how” of being born of the Spirit is a mystery. Why is it sometimes hard for us to accept this? What’s essential for a person to be able to accept it?

The Word in Action

Today, celebrate that you can enter the kingdom of God in the future because of the new life in the Spirit you have today.

Prayer

My Lord and my God, thank you for granting me entrance into Your kingdom. I am a citizen of a heavenly place. Show me how to live as such while I’m still on earth. Give me the words to invite others to discover a new life and citizenship in the Spirit.

In Jesus Name, Amen.

Day 4

Day 4 – Receiving the Testimony

Reading

Key Verse: John 3:9-12

Cross Reference: John 5:31-40

Reflection

What is the biblical definition of the word “testimony”? (Ref: Blue Letter Bible)

Name all the ways the testimony about Jesus has been presented to people.

Have you or someone you know ever said, “If only God would come and tell me the truth Himself. Then I would believe”? What does history tell us about this statement? What do people need in order to believe?

The Word in Action

Today, think of someone God has placed on your heart to pray for. Ask the Spirit to draw that person and help them to believe in the testimony of Jesus Christ.

Prayer

Holy Spirit, thank you for drawing me to Jesus Christ, the Truth, and new life in Him. I know I didn’t receive the testimony about Christ because I was smart or righteous. It was all a gift from You, as is the ability to abide in Christ. Help me to remember that and never look down on those who suffer with disbelief.

In Jesus Name, Amen.

Day 5

Day 5 – Son of Man

Reading

Key Verse: John 3:13-15

Cross Reference: 1 Corinthians 15:45-49

Reflection

Why is Jesus also called the Son of Man and what precipitated his descent from heaven? (Hint: Genesis 3:15 and Romans 5:12-21)

Summarize what makes the second Adam (Jesus) different than the first Adam?

Are you bearing the image of the “man of heaven”? If so, how? If not, why not?

The Word in Action

Today, meditate on the extensive planning, sacrifice, and love of God that was required to orchestrate your deliverance from sin.

Prayer

My God, Your love astounds me! Even my own sin and the penalty of death is no match for Your love. Let my gratitude over the redemption I have through Jesus, Your Son, fuel my obedience to Your word and my heart to love others with the power of the Gospel.

In Jesus Name, Amen.
