What is a SyncUP and the Weekly Guide?

To put is simply, a “SyncUP” is spending quality time with God for the purpose of knowing Him better in order to align your life (mind, will, and emotions) to His design.  The sync goes only in one direction…UP!
The Weekly SyncUP Guide publishes every Monday and is provided as a FREE resource to SyncUP email subscribers only. Click here to Invite a Friend to Join SyncUP.

This guide provides five (5) daily outlines on scripture reading, reflection questions, life application steps, and prayers to help you have your own daily SyncUPs with God for the rest of the week.

This is not a prescription but a rather a resource to help facilitate rich, fulfilling, genuine, and life changing time with God.

DON’T FREAK OUT…if doing all 5 this week is overwhelming, set a goal of 2 or 3 and work your way up from there.
God Bless!

Day 1

Day 1 – Jesus: The Great Initiator

Reading

Key Verse: John 1:1-14 (ESV)

Cross Reference: N/A (ESV)

Reflection

What prompted Jesus, the true light, to come in to the world of darkness? Was it by popular demand?

What’s the significance of the fact that Jesus came down to people who rejected Him?

What does Jesus initiate on our behalf? (Hint: v.12)

The Word in Action

Today, consider that the Lord of all creation descended from heaven to initiate a relationship with you.

Prayer

Gracious Lord, thank You for being a God of great initiative. You saw the eternal peril I was in; the consequence of my own nature and decisions. You saw fit to initiate a way for me out of the darkness of my own design and in to the light of Your presence. You came after me, sought me out, pursued me, and claimed me for Your own. I praise You for Your proactive love toward me.

In Jesus Name, Amen.

Day 2

Day 2 – Jesus: The Bold and the Brave

Reading

Key Verse: John 18:1-9 (ESV)

Cross Reference: N/A (ESV)

Reflection

What’s the very first thing Jesus does when the armed soldiers and accusers descend on Him and His disciples in the garden?

What was His primary concern during this time of great danger for His life? (Hint: v.8-v.9)

Jesus did not hesitate to affirm who He was to His accusers. When have you been afraid to affirm who He is to people?

The Word in Action

Today, live out godly courage by claiming who Jesus is in the presence of those around you.

Prayer

My Lord, thank you for being a perfect example of bravery and courage under fire. You were always secure in who You were before men. Help me to be the same. Grant me godly boldness to claim Your identity as Lord of my life to anyone. Let me remember that by acknowledging You, I have very little to lose and everything to gain.

In Jesus Name, Amen.

Day 3

Day 3 – Jesus: The Courageous Defender

Reading

Key Verse: John 8:1-11 (ESV)

Cross Reference: N/A (ESV)

Reflection

What was the real reason the Pharisees brought the adulterous woman before Jesus?

What was Jesus risking by defending her? What could have happened to Him?

Jesus was the only one qualified to throw stones at the woman but He didn’t. Are you inclined to defend and forgive the guilty like Jesus? Why should we all be?

The Word in Action

Today, take the opportunity to defend and forgive someone who is guilty of a trespass.

Prayer

My Lord and my God, thank you for defending me against the full penalty of my guilt. You are the defender of my soul. Forgive me for when I am not inclined or willing to do the same toward my fellow man. Give me a heart to see myself in the eyes of the guilty so that I can point them to the Great Defender rather than act as their judge.

In Jesus Name, Amen.

Day 4

Day 4 – Jesus: The Good Friend

Reading

Key Verse: John 11:1-44 (ESV)

Cross Reference: N/A (ESV)

Reflection

Describe how Jesus felt about Martha, Mary, and Lazarus?

Did his decision to not immediately come when they sent for Him mean He didn’t love them? What does this teach us about god-centered friendships?

What does Jesus’ relationship to His followers teach us about how our relationships should be with people to whom we are sharing the Gospel?

The Word in Action

Today, examine your friendships to determine if you are treating people like projects or loving them like friends.

Prayer

My Lord, thank You for being the best friend of my life. Your decisions towards me, even the ones I don’t understand, I can trust are with my best interest in mind. You love me honestly and with heartfelt individuality. You know and love me not just humanity in general. Teach me to love my friends the same way, especially those who are not believers. Help me to treat them as dearly loved people and not religious projects.

In Jesus Name, Amen.

Day 5

Day 5 – Jesus: The Promise Keeper

Reading

Key Verse: John 20:11-22 (ESV)

Cross Reference: N/A (ESV)

Reflection

What promise did Jesus fulfill by appearing to Mary and the other disciples after His death? What scripture records this promise?

What promise did He fulfill in v.22? What scripture records this promise?

Think of all the promises Jesus makes to His disciples (past, present and future) in the Bible. Which promise do you need to remember the most right now?

The Word in Action

Today, walk in the hope and confidence that Jesus Christ keeps His promises.

Prayer

My God, thank you for being someone who does what He says. I know sometimes I get weary of waiting for Your promises to manifest. I am grateful You don’t get weary of waiting for my faith in You to grow. Build in me an unshakable trust in Your character as a promise keeper. Teach me to wait well for Your every word to be fulfilled in my life.

In Jesus Name, Amen.
