What is SyncUP and the Weekly Guide?

SyncUP is a blog that provides not a prescription but rather a premiere of what my times with God are like, what He tells me, what I learn, how I sync with Him. My hope is that this blog will provide some building blocks to help you enjoy rich, fulfilling, genuine, and life changing time with God.
The SyncUP Blog publishes every Monday to the public  The Weekly SyncUP Guide also published but is provided to email subscribers only. This guide provides five (5) daily outlines on scripture reading, reflection questions, life application steps, and prayers to help you have your own daily SyncUPs with God for the rest of the week.

DON’T FREAK OUT…if doing all 5 this week is overwhelming, set a goal of 2 or 3 and work your way up from there.
God Bless!

Day 1

Day 1 – Suffering Happens

Reading

Read Genesis 3:14-15 and Romans 8:20-22

Reflection

According to Genesis 3:14-15, why does suffering exist?

What is “enmity” (v.15) and how have you encountered it in your life?

Many of us wonder why God allows suffering.  What is the reason given in Romans 8:20-22?

The Word in Action

Today, think about your current sufferings.  Journal how this suffering may be giving you freedom in other ways.

Prayer

Gracious God and Father, I know you are no stranger to suffering.  It is sometimes hard to accept that suffering is just something that’s going to happen in this life because of sin.  Please help to remember that you provide the solution to sin. Teach my heart to rejoice that, in your grace, You even use the suffering sin causes to do great and amazing things in and through my life.

In Jesus Name, Amen.

Day 2

Day 2 – Relief vs. Redemption

Reading

Read John 4:7-15

Reflection

What relief was the woman seeking? How was she seeking this relief?

What redemption did Jesus offer her instead?

What are 3 key differences between how the woman was seeking relief and the redemption that Jesus offered?

The Word in Action

Today, read the rest of woman’s story in John 4:16-29. Consider in what specific ways you seek relief over redemption.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank you for the satisfaction that can only be found in You.  Forgive me for running after temporary things that can only offer temporary relief from my pains and longings.  Transform my eyes to see that You are the source to relieve the thirst of my soul.  Teach me to drink You in.

In Jesus Name, Amen.

Day 3

Day 3 – God’s Rest

Reading

Read Hebrews 4:1-10

Reflection

What is the “rest” that God offers?  Is it just a day off? Does it depend on if you have a good day or a bad day?

Look up ‘rest’ in a Bible concordance. What does it mean? (You can use blueletterbible.org)

According to verse 2, entering the rest correlates to how you receive the “good news” What is this news?

What’s the difference between those that “heard” the good news and those that “listened”?

The Word in Action

Today, talk about the ‘good news’ with someone using your own words. Then share how this ‘good news’ gives you rest.

Prayer

Dear God, thank you for the rest, the peace, the blessed assurance for my soul that I have in You. It is amazing that I can have this rest even when everything around me is restless. Train up my mind and heart to stay close to You and hold tightly to the rest You have given me.  Help me to not live my life as a victim of circumstances.

In Jesus Name, Amen

Day 4

Day 4 – Ebenezer Stones

Reading

Read 1 Samuel 7:7-12 and Psalm 77:11

Reflection

What does God do for Israel in 1 Samuel 7:7-12?

What does the prophet Samuel do in response to God’s deliverance (v.12)? What’s the purpose for what he did?

After reading Psalm 77:11, why do you think it’s important to remember what God has done?

The Word in Action

Today, take a few flash cards or post-it notes (real or virtual) and make 3 of your own Ebenezer Stones by documenting how the Lord has delivered you in the past.

Prayer

Father in heaven, thank you for the demonstration of Your love and power in my life.  You have delivered me from countless calamities, both known and unknown. You have sustained me when all provision was gone. You have rescued me from terrors and attacks of the enemy. Discipline my mind to continuously remember Your great works.

In Jesus Name, Amen

Day 5

Day 5 – Present Praise for Future Life

Reading

Read Matthew 5:12 and 1 Peter 4:12-13

Reflection

What, where, and when are the rewards we should rejoice about now? (Matthew 5:12) What makes it hard for you to live this out?

According to 1 Peter 4:12-13, what are the two things we share in with Christ? How does this relate to Romans 8:18?

The Word in Action

Today, memorize Romans 8:18

Prayer

Dear Lord, grant me a heart of praise.  Give me a spirit that rejoices now for what is and is to come in heaven. Bless me with eyes to see how the sufferings of today yield a joyful reward in eternity’s tomorrow.   Bless me with a mind that thinks on Your future glory with present joy.

In Jesus Name, Amen
