Get Started

What is SyncUP and the Weekly Guide?

SyncUP is a blog that provides not a prescription but rather a premiere of what my times with God are like, what He tells me, what I learn, how I sync with Him. My hope is that this blog will provide some building blocks to help you enjoy rich, fulfilling, genuine, and life changing time with God.
The SyncUP Blog publishes every Monday to the public  The Weekly SyncUP Guide also published but is provided to email subscribers only. This guide provides five (5) daily outlines on scripture reading, reflection questions, life application steps, and prayers to help you have your own daily SyncUPs with God for the rest of the week.

DON’T FREAK OUT…if doing all 5 this week is overwhelming, set a goal of 2 or 3 and work your way up from there.
God Bless!

Day 1

Day 1 – A Secure Identity

Reading

Read John 1:12 and 1 Peter 2:9

Reflection

In John 1:12 we are told that receiving and believing in Jesus Christ gives us a new identity. What is it? In one word, describe how reading this truth makes you feel.

There are 4 identity descriptions for believers in 1 Peter 2:9. Complete the following statements for each one:
I am a chose race and therefore…
I am a royal priesthood and therefore…
I am a holy nation and therefore…
I am a people for His own possession and therefore…

What about God’s character gives you security about your identity in Him?

The Word in Action

Today, try to memorize 1 Peter 2:9 and ask God to reveal how you can live out your identity in Him with more security and boldness.

Prayer

Gracious God and Father, thank you for a secure identity.  Through Jesus Christ, I know I am Your child. Help me to resist the temptation to doubt that who I am in You is complete and valuable. Give me strength to focus on who You have called me to be and the boldness to live it out.

In Jesus Name, Amen.

Day 2

Day 2 – A Special Relationship

Reading

Read Psalm 139:7-10 and 1 Corinthians 12:12-26

Reflection

Describe in your own words what is special about having a relationship with God, according to Psalm 139:7-10.

Our special relationship with God is “bundled” with a special relationship with His body. Looking at 1 Corinthians 12:18-20, why is resisting the relationship with the body not an option for a believer?

Sometimes in life we feel lonely. What perspective does v.26 offer about this feeling?

The Word in Action

Today, consider your relationship with the body of Christ. Is it aligned to God’s standards? Confess to God in what ways you have taken relationship with His body for granted or as optional and ask for forgiveness.  Share this confession with another believer.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank you for the blessing of Your constant presence in my life.  I am never alone.  Move my heart to treasure the gift of spiritual family and fellowship.  Remove from me anything that resists embracing the responsibilities and blessings of relationship with Your body.

In Jesus Name, Amen.

Day 3

Day 3 – A Godly Strength

Reading

Read Ephesians 3:14-21

Reflection

According to v.16 what type of strength does a believer have and where does it come from? What makes the source of the strength significant to you?

What is the intended result of this strength according to verse 17?

Read verse 20 very carefully.  Where is the exceptional power described at work? Is this real in your life?  If so, how?  If not, ask God to reveal why.

The Word in Action

Today, observe and journal all the ways the power of God worked through you.

Prayer

Dear God, there is power in Your name.  There is power in Your Gospel. And through Christ, this power works through me. I marvel at the thought of it! Let your power have its perfect work through me, for Your glory and not my own. Help me to fully surrender to Your power and encourage it in the life of other believers.

In Jesus Name, Amen

Day 4

Day 4 – A Meaningful Life

Reading

Read Colossians 3:17 and 2 Corinthians 5:14-21

Reflection

According to Colossians 3:17, for whom should your every word and action be?  How are you living up to this?  Why does it matter?

What prompts us to desire to live for Him according to 2 Corinthians 5:14-15?

For people living for Christ, what is the common call to action for their life? (Ref. 2 Corinthians 5:18-20)

The Word in Action

Today, ask God to show you one opportunity for delivering the ministry of reconciliation.  Say a prayer and take it.

Prayer

Father in heaven, You give meaning to my life! Thank you for dying for me so that I may live for You.  Sometimes I am nervous being the minister of reconciliation You called me to be.  Deliver me from my insecurities so that I can boldly be Your Christ ambassador.  Help me to remember there are souls at stake.

In Jesus Name, Amen

Day 5

Day 5 – A Certain Future

Reading

Read John 14:1-3

Reflection

According to John 14:1-3, what guarantees do believers have for the future?

Who’s preparing this future state?  Why is this significant?

Read the end of verse 3.  Describe in one word how it makes you feel.

How does knowing your future impact your present?

The Word in Action

Today, upload a picture of a mansion as the wallpaper for your phone, tablet, or computer. Reflect on John 14:1-3 every time you see it.

Prayer

Dear Lord, thank for giving me a future to look forward to, through Jesus Christ. Thank you for taking the care to prepare a particular place for me.  Thank you for wanting me to be where You are. Your desire for us to have an eternity together overflows my cup.

In Jesus Name, Amen
