June 20th – June 24th

Get Started

What is SyncUP and the Weekly Guide?

SyncUP is a blog that provides not a prescription but rather a premiere of what my times with God are like, what He tells me, what I learn, how I sync with Him. My hope is that this blog will provide some building blocks to help you enjoy rich, fulfilling, genuine, and life changing time with God.
The SyncUP Blog publishes every Monday to the public  The Weekly SyncUP Guide also published but is provided to email subscribers only. This guide provides five (5) daily outlines on scripture reading, reflection questions, life application steps, and prayers to help you have your own daily SyncUPs with God for the rest of the week.

DON’T FREAK OUT…if doing all 5 this week is overwhelming, set a goal of 2 or 3 and work your way up from there.
God Bless!

Day 1

Day 1 – The Origin of Intimacy

Reading

Read Matthew 11:27 and 1 Corinthians 2:10-11

Reflection

Describe the intimacy between God and the Son in Matthew 11:27.

Describe the intimacy between God and the Spirit in 1 Corinthians 2:10-11.

According to the scriptures, who was the first being to experience intimacy and what does this tell us about the origin and nature of intimacy?

The Word in Action

Today, consider the above scriptures about the intimacy God has within Himself (Holy Trinity). From these, write 2 conclusions about what intimacy is and 2 conclusions about what it is not.

Prayer

Gracious God and Father, thank you for showing me that intimacy originated with You. There are so many misconceptions about what intimacy is and what it is for. Help me to seek the truth so I will be more aligned to what You designed intimacy to be than what society has tried to make it become.

In Jesus Name, Amen.

Day 2

Day 2 – Intimacy Safeguards

Reading

Read Matthew 7:6, Genesis 2:23-25 and 2 Corinthians 6:14

Reflection

According to Matthew 7:6, why is it dangerous to give what is precious to those that can’t or won’t value it? How does this relate to setting safeguards with intimacy?

Genesis 2:23-25 describes the intimacy between husband and wife. In verse 24, what 2 things have to happen before they experience the sexual expression of their intimacy? Why are these safeguards important?

What does “unequally yoked” mean in 2 Corinthians 6:14? (Ref. Blue Letter Bible) Describe a time when you struggled applying this safeguard in your life?

The Word in Action

Today, consider the intimacy safeguards in your life (platonic and romantic). Ask God to reveal one safeguard that needs reinforcement in your life. Write it down and obey immediately.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank you for Your protection. Train my mind to see Your rules and boundaries for what they really are; safeguards to protect me, not limits to oppress me. I marvel at how much hell on earth I avoid just by trusting and obeying Your Word. Please give me a heart that desires intimacy on Your terms more than intimacy on my time line.

In Jesus Name, Amen.

Day 3

Day 3 – Intimacy with God

Reading

Read John 14:23-24, Psalm 16:11, Psalm 63:5, John 6:55-59, and Jeremiah 33:3

Reflection

Match the scripture with the corresponding attribute of intimacy with God:

Scripture                                                      Intimacy Attribute

John 14:23                                                      Knowing Great and Hidden Things

Psalm 16:11                                                     Making a Home with God

Psalm 63:5                                                      Eternal Life

John 6:55-59                                                  Fullness of Joy

Jeremiah 33:3                                                Soul Satisfaction

Why is it important to value the privilege of intimacy with God?

Is this more important for a single person than a married person, or is it equally as important for both? Why?

The Word in Action

Today, memorize Psalm 63:5

Prayer

Dear God, what a blessing, what an honor to be able to have intimacy with You. Show me how to live in it. Teach me how to delight in it. Give me a heart to treasure it during every phase and season of my life. Thank you for wanting to make a home with and in me. I am in awe of Your desire to have that type of intimacy with me.

In Jesus Name, Amen

Day 4

Day 4 – Intimacy with People

Reading

Read 1 Samuel 18:1-3 and Ruth 1:16-17

Reflection

How is the intimacy between David and Jonathan described in 1 Samuel 18:1-3?

How is the intimacy between Ruth and Naomi depicted in Ruth 1:16-17?

What do these verses reveal about platonic intimacy?

Do you think society influences us to value romantic intimacy more than platonic intimacy? If so, how has this influence impacted you personally?

The Word in Action

Today, call your most intimate friend and express to them how much they mean to you.

Prayer

Father in heaven, thank you for gift of intimate friends. Sometimes it seems like everything around me is promoting romantic intimacy in all its forms. I know there’s nothing wrong with desiring that type of intimacy, it’s a good thing. But keep me from becoming obsessed with it to the point I lose sight of the satisfaction I have in the intimacy I enjoy with You and friends.

In Jesus Name, Amen

Day 5

Day 5 – The Purpose of Intimacy

Reading

Read John 17:20-23 and Ephesians 5:28-32

Reflection

Looking at both of the scriptures above, how many times is the word “one” used?

What does the repeated use of the word “one” tell us about intimacy?

According to John 17:23 and Ephesians 5:32, what is the ultimate purpose of intimacy (oneness)? Have you always thought about the purpose of intimacy in this way?

The Word in Action

Today, think of 3 false ideas about the purpose of intimacy that you heard or believed and find a scripture that presents the truth about each one.

Prayer

Dear Lord, I get it. Intimacy is not about me. It’s not about feeling close to someone. It’s not about having my desire for physical connection satisfied. These are all possible byproducts but they’re not the objective. It’s about presenting the oneness of Christ with His church as a beacon to draw lost souls to You. I confess, I often lose sight of this due to my own selfish pursuits. Help me to remember and stop seeking the icing instead of the cake.

In Jesus Name, Amen
